Summary
The project aims to ensure the 150 ESCC PCs are upgraded and distributed
efficiently and fairly across the county. Support for users in using the equipment will be
identified, whether through training or ongoing support networks.
This work will be carried out by a volunteer at Eastnet. The project will
- Develop a job description and expectations for delivery
- Ensure that his NVQ is linked in to the work
- Locate and train another volunteer to help so that not all pressure
on one person
- Identify ways that groups can get the PCs once they are upgraded
- Link volunteer with person in ESCC who will provide support line re
the equipment
- Identify how second group of PCs are to get to Eastnet
Support for users
The project will also:
- Develop a helpline for the users of the equipment to help them get
off the ground. (This could be part of Eastnets contribution if there are volunteers
available to man a telephone support service, e.g. talking people through any setting up
or other hardware difficulties. There should be no obligation on them to go out to people
or to ensure that problems are overcome.)
- Provide information on choosing appropriate Internet service
provision
- Develop an ideal or minimum specification on what sort of equipment
is required.
- Link to training programme (The Computer Basics element in
particular)
- Identify other providers of used equipment, recycling issues, and
how to use/upgrade them to help as part of the exit strategy
Legal issues
ESCC to provide a disclaimer to state that they will not be held
responsible for computers once they have been passed on. In order to ensure that this is
not likely to happen they will be providing access to "Task Force 2000" software
to check for Y2K problems. Help from their department will be provided by phone to the
volunteer at Eastnet in running the software and other hardware queries he may have when
upgrading them.
